Contributions:
Lewis Hamilton started his F1 journey in 2007, he was the first black driver in F1 and this came with a lot of complications. It all started in 2020 when Lewis Hamilton continued to do amazing off the racetrack as well as on the racetrack. Lewis used his high ranked status to educated people on the killing of George Floyd and the movement of Black Lives Matter. These events sparked an increase of protests against racial prejudice and people started to ask questions about the sport of F1 which was a white primary sport. Lewis worked continuously to educate everyone around him on the importance of BLM, this consisted of handing out tee-shirts growing the awareness for the movement. An example of Lewis Hamiltons strong believes about the matter at the 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix even after the warning of the FIA Lewis went on the podium wearing a shirt that read, “Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor.”
Lewis Hamilton has been one of the only drivers to speak about his beliefs throughout his career and really make a difference in the F1 community and even out of it. While most drivers are scared of speaking out, Lewis has never had to think twice about talking of the topics like LGBTQ+ rights, human rights, and environmental problems around the world.

Lewis did not stop there, however. Hamilton has invested in driving change within the sport. Observing the lack of diversity in the Mercedes team photo at the end of 2019 prompted him to establish The Hamilton Commission. This report revealed that only 1 percent of F1 employees were from black backgrounds. In response, Hamilton allocated £20 million to Mission 44, a charity focused on helping underrepresented youth pursue STEM subjects. The charity also organized schoolchildren to visit F1 tracks with Hamilton, showcasing potential career paths. When asked by “The Athletic” if this work was as important as his on-track achievements, Hamilton emphasized its significance. He acknowledged the ongoing lack of diversity in the sport, expressing a commitment to shifting the status quo.
